History
Grand Rapids, Michigan
The Barnes name has been synonymous with quality masonry veneers for more than thirty years — built on craft, resilience, and determination.
Founded by Brian Barnes and Tommy Barnes near Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1996, the Barnes name has stood for quality masonry for more than thirty years. When the 2008 recession hit Michigan harder than most places, Brian made the difficult decision to move the company to Colorado. He arrived with a small trailer of equipment and the determination to rebuild something even stronger than the business he had left behind.
Nearly two decades later, Barnes has grown far beyond its roots. What began as a masonry operation is now known throughout the Rocky Mountain region for a full range of exterior construction services, including stucco, EIFS, weather-resistant barrier systems, and cladding. The company's reputation for craftsmanship and reliability has only deepened over time.
In 2020, Brian welcomed his lifelong friend and colleague Daniel Feely as a partner and vice president of Barnes Construction. Both Brian and Daniel are journeyman masons at heart, and that foundation continues to shape the company's identity.
In 2026, Barnes Construction began a new chapter with the addition of its Concrete Division. Frank Valenzuela, a concrete specialist and friend of both Brian and Daniel, joined the company as a partner and manager of the new division. Brian and Daniel first met Frank in 2016, and the three have worked together on several projects since then. Their shared experiences and the trust built over those years made Frank's arrival a natural step in the company's growth.
With this new division, Barnes expands its capabilities while staying true to the craftsmanship, reliability, and relationships that have defined its story since 1996. The story of Barnes Construction is still being written, and the next chapter is already underway.

Thirty Years of Craft
Masonry is the craft on which Barnes Construction has built its reputation since 1996. That knowledge, earned on the jobsite and strengthened through nearly two decades of projects in Colorado, also drives our new Concrete Division. Today, we bring both specialties together through one approach to building: understanding each project in depth, coordinating every stage with care, and taking pride in the result.

I met Brian Barnes and Daniel Feely in 2016 while we were working together on a highly complex, mid-rise residential project in downtown Denver. The project faced intense schedule pressure particularly regarding the exterior facade's critical path requiring us to find ways to make up time without compromising cost or quality.
Brian, Daniel, and their team played a pivotal role in that effort. Rather than approaching the work as independent contractors protecting their own interests, we collaborated as a unified team. We devised a plan that allowed for simultaneous progress across multiple facades and work zones, managing logistics, sourcing, and equipment procurement nationwide, while also coordinating labor, crane usage at all levels, sequencing, site access, and interactions with other trades to execute the project within the tight timeframe.
It was not an easy project; there were tough days, seven-day workweeks for months on end, and difficult, highly tense conversations, moments where deadlines and expectations placed immense pressure on everyone involved. Yet, what made the difference in the project's execution was our frank, honest, and professional communication. We didn't always agree immediately, but we consistently achieved productive outcomes for all parties.
Ultimately, we managed to get the project's exterior critical path back on track, advance work simultaneously, protect the budget, and successfully complete what initially seemed like a near-impossible task.
Supporting each other through challenges rather than assigning blame forged a level of trust rarely found in conventional business relationships; we learned how each of us operates under pressure and how we solve seemingly impossible problems under any conditions.
I believe we all emerged stronger from that project thanks to the way we worked together. Today, we are not merely starting a relationship based on a new opportunity or a corporate structure, but forming a partnership dedicated to executing high-standard projects with precision and durability.
